HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
“Ayanpuram Nadar Uravinmurai Sangam” a great name in the field of education is doing silent revolution in education in and around Ayanpuram for the past Fifty Nine Years. Today this organization is running three institutions, namely W.P.A . Soundarapandian Elementary School, W.P.A. Soundarapandian Higher Secondary School and Kamaraj Matriculation Higher Secondary School.
The history of this organization clearly shows the selfless work and sacrifice of so many persons. The business community people who hailed from the southern region of Tamilnadu and settled in Ayanpuram needed a common place to maintain they organized an association known as “AYANPURAM NADAR URAVINMURAI NANDAVANAM ABIVIRUTHI COMMITTEE”. This committee consisted of 18 members who spent their time, effort and money for this social cause of formation of a ‘Sangam’ and promotion of education through the same. This committee was able was renamed as “AYANPURAM NADAR URAVINMURAI SANGAM”. This sangam had keen interest to inherit quality education for the people of Ayanpuram. Their motto was to give equal education without the bias of caste, creed and sex.
17.8.1958, the sangam established its first educational institution W.P.A. Soundarapandian Elementary School. In course of time, the Elementary School was upgraded into Higher Elementary School. In the year 1971 the second educational institution W.P.S. Soundarapandian High School was started and the same was blossomed into a full-fledged Higher Secondary School in the year 1979.
The Sangam felt the need to enrich the pupils of Ayanpuram with English medium education. In 1994 – 1995 the sangam founded its third educational institution KAMARAJ MATRICULATION SCHOOL in the fond memory of perunthalaivar Late. K. Kamaraj. This is a co-educational English medium school. The school was started on 23rd June 1994 with classes L.K.G., U.K.G and I std with a strength of 150 pupils guided by 9 faculties.
During the academic year 2000 – 2001, a new building with three storeyed were constructed and inaugurated at No.66, N.M.K. Street, Ayanpuram, Chennai – 600 023. To commensurate with golden jubilee year of sangam, the school building was named as “PONVIZHA MAALIGAI”.
In order to accommodate the increasing strength, the management has constructed another three storeyed building named as “VAIRA VIZHA MALIGAI” (diamond jubilee) at No.46, Pachaikkal Veerasamy Street with enough space Minister Thiru E.V.K.S. Elangovan on 5th of February 2011. Play ground facilities have also been made with the intension of promoting the physical skills of the pupils.
In the academic year 2010 – 2011 our school has been upgraded into Higher Secondary School. At present we are having classes from PRE-K.G. to XII. The school bangs the strength of 1460 pupils who are ably guided by 61 offering Tamil as the First Language.
As part of the curriculum, computer education is made compulsory from STD I to STD IX with well furnished computer lab that consists of 40 computers. Various associations like Tamil Ellakiya Mandram English Literary Association, Science Club and Fine Arts Club are active in the school so as to give wider exposure to students. Scouts, Guides, JRC, Karate, Band, ABACUS, Western Dance, Classical Dance, Spoken English and Yoga activities are also functioning in the school in a grand manner. To enhance the speaking skills and in order to patch up with the modern trend of education, an English expert is appointed by the management. During summer vacation, special coaching is being given in sports and extra-curricular activities. The school has a very spacious and well planned indoor badminton court of high quality. Interschool tournaments are being held in the court.
The school has carved a niche for itself interms of being one of the best schools in the city with an excellent and long serving academic record. The management is happy to say that our students have been doing well in the public examinations securing 100% result for the past 17 years. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive liberal system of value based education to develop the talents of the students and also moulding them to lead an ethical life in the society.
